127th Street & 248th Avenue Intersection 0

Sep11

Friday, September 18th, the Village will be completing traffic control improvements at the intersection of 127th Street and 248th Avenue.  The existing “one way” stop will be converted to an “all way” stop.  New stop signs, stop bars, and warning flashers/flags will be installed to alert motorists of this change.  While some additional traffic congestion may occur along 127th Street, the new stop conditions will improve the overall safety of the intersection.  Additionally, the installation of new traffic signals at the intersection in the near future should resolve potential traffic congestion issues.  Construction of the new signals has already started and they are scheduled to be operational by the end of this year.  If you have questions about this project, please contact the Public Works Department at (815) 436-3577.

Detour signs will be posted while the work is being performed.  The posted detour route will utilize Fraser Road and River Road.  The work is being done by Walsh Construction as part of the Illinois Route 59 reconstruction project.

Lockport Street will be closed to through vehicular traffic during MainStreet Plainfield’s Tuesday evening Cruise Nights.  The roadway will close every Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m. and will be reopened to traffic at 9:00 p.m. The Tuesday evening closure of Lockport Street will continue through August 25th.  Car show participants arriving before 5:00 p.m. will be staged at the Plainfield Supper Club, 24136 W. Lockport Street, in the parking lot, until the roadway is closed. Then the classic cars will be allowed access to the Lockport Street display area.  This closure will also affect Illinois Street because drivers will not have north/south access across Lockport Street.  However, Des Plaines Street will be open to north/south traffic only.  Public parking is available in the municipal lots on north Des Plaines Street and Illinois Street as well as the south end of the Bryant Building parking lot.

Steiner Road, from Route 126 to 143rd Street, is closed for reconstruction.  It is anticipated that the roadway will be reopened to traffic in the fall of 2009.  The designated and posted detour route utilizes Route 126 (Lockport Street), Wallin Drive (old Route 30), and 143rd Street.  The road will be rebuilt with a design similar to the Drauden Road boulevard section, south of Route 126.  The project also includes permanent traffic signals and turn lanes at Route 126.  The Village was able to secure two million dollars in grants through the Will County Governmental League for the construction of this project.  For additional information, please contact:  Greg Heiden, Transportation Engineer, Plainfield Public Works Department at (815) 436-3577.
