Severe Thunderstorm Watch, Air Quality Alert in Effect

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect in the Plainfield area until 8 p.m. Saturday.
The National Weather Service warns that storms could move into the area Saturday afternoon and evening. The storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail as large as one inch in diameter, along with heavy rainfall.
Heat indices Saturday afternoon could reach or exceed 100 degrees, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service.
The Environmental Protection Agency of Illinois is also forecasting unhealthy air quality across the Chicago metro area. An air quality alert is in affect until midnight.
