A person walking in the northbound lane of Interstate 55, just north of U.S. 30 Joliet/Plainfield exit, was killed early this morning after being struck by two vehicles, a news release issued by Illinois State Police District 5 said.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The accident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. when a 2005 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer struck the pedestrian in the right lane, the release said. The driver of a 1999 Toyota Camry was behind the truck and struck the person a second time, the release said.

An investigation is ongoing and no tickets have been issued.
