127th Street & 248th Avenue Intersection 0

Sep11

Friday, September 18th, the Village will be completing traffic control improvements at the intersection of 127th Street and 248th Avenue.  The existing “one way” stop will be converted to an “all way” stop.  New stop signs, stop bars, and warning flashers/flags will be installed to alert motorists of this change.  While some additional traffic congestion may occur along 127th Street, the new stop conditions will improve the overall safety of the intersection.  Additionally, the installation of new traffic signals at the intersection in the near future should resolve potential traffic congestion issues.  Construction of the new signals has already started and they are scheduled to be operational by the end of this year.  If you have questions about this project, please contact the Public Works Department at (815) 436-3577.

“The new Edward Plainfield ER will be open 24/7 to take care of small emergencies like high fevers and stitches to more serious emergencies such as asthma attacks and broken bones,” says Pete Schubel, MD, medical director of the new ER. “We’ll also be there to handle orthopedic emergencies and serious sports injuries.”

Edward’s ER team has also been recognized as the most preferred for ER services in the region according to a 2009 National Research Corporation survey.

The new facility, with 15 treatment stations, has an ambulance bay to receive basic life support (BLS) ambulance traffic. An advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) ambulance will be on-site and available 24 hours a day, year-round to transport cardiac and critical care patients, once they’ve been stabilized, to Edward Hospital in Naperville.

  • Immediate access to medical records for current Edward patients
  • All private rooms with cardiac monitors, wall-source oxygen, computers and flat screen TVs
  • Specialized rooms for critical care, trauma, isolation and psychiatry

Legionnaires’ disease in Plainfield 0

Aug18

Edward Hospital identifies about two to three cases of Legionnaires’ disease in a given year, and they’ve had three in the last month. Fortunately, Legionnaires’ disease is not spread from person-to-person contact. The disease can be hard to diagnose because its symptoms are like many other forms of pneumonia.

Signs of the disease can include:

  • High fever
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Some people may also suffer from muscle aches and headaches.

Chest X-rays are needed to find the pneumonia caused by the bacteria, and other tests can be done on sputum (phlegm), as well as blood or urine to find evidence of the bacteria in the body. Symptoms usually begin 2 to 14 days after being exposed to the bacteria.

Legionnaires’ disease can be very serious and can cause death in up to 5% to 30% of cases. Most cases can be treated successfully with antibiotics [drugs that kill bacteria in the body], and healthy people usually recover from infection.

Find more information about Legionnaires’ disease at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
